Will you be there for you?

Tuesday, October 03, 2017

No one can do the work for me. No one can lose the weight for me and no one can make me happy. I can reach out to people for help -- which is really important. It's much better to have people around you giving you support, encouragement, and advice. Ultimately, though, I have to do it for myself. The question is, will I be there for myself or will I keep making excuses and waiting for someone else to fix me? A more emotional question is, thinking back to the fat little girl that I was during my whole childhood, the one who never had comfortable clothes to wear, the one who was almost always the fattest one in any class or group, the one who had mental issues that no one understood, the one who never had a boyfriend-- will I be there for her? My answer is yes I will. Maybe I can help her to feel good in her body and be at peace with her "differentness". I can promise that I'll at least try and that I won't turn away.

This is a great example of positive self-care. You are more equipped to care for your inner child than anyone else because you've experienced it. Looking at yourself as if you were someone else and what you would say to them can be very helpful. And as I see this in you, I realize I need to do more of that for myself with my own traumatic childhood experiences. Thanks for sharing! emoticon
