October 4, 2017 ANGER AND PRIDE

There are so many times when others say or do things we don’t particularly like. Rather than letting it go and moving on, our pride gets in the way. We get angry. We hold grudges. We say or do things in order to hurt them back like they hurt us. Sometimes, no, many times we allow pride to cause us to hold bad feelings toward others because of something they did or said. However, God says to forgive. We are to forgive others as He forgives us for the things we say and do that are wrong and prideful.

SCRIPTURE:
Hebrews 8:12 “And I will forgive their wickedness, and I will never again remember their sins.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write about a time when someone hurt you.
2. List what happened and how you responded.
3. Know God wants you to step away from pride.
4. Know God wants you to forgive and forget.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, help us to remember not to let pride get in the way when others say or do things that hurt us. Help us to remember when we think we are too good to forgive that You forgave us. Remind us daily to step away from anger and pride so we can live on this earth as Jesus did. Many people did wrong to Him but He did not get angry. He did not show pride. Help us to be more like Jesus. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

REMEMBER:
Rather than get angry at the person who has done wrong to us, we should pray for them and pray for our hearts to show kindness.

If we focus on getting angry at those who say wrong things to us, we are not focusing on God.

When we allow pride to get in the way of a relationship because we are angry, we are hurting ourselves and others.

Anger due to pride can distance relationships and cause so much emotional pain.

No matter how many times others do wrong, we are to forgive and show them love.

FOCUS:
Luke 17:4 “Even if that person wrongs you seven times a day and each time turns again and asks forgiveness, you must forgive.” (NLT)

We are called to forgive and move away from our pride and anger against others.
