October 5, 2017 LOVE AND PRIDE
When oil and water are put in the same dish, they don’t mix. The oil pushes the water away. We can stir and stir but they just don’t mix together. When we have pride in our hearts, it is like the oil. It pushes love away. We can’t completely love others when our hearts are full of pride. When we love ourselves and are puffed up about all we do, we can’t take actions to show others we love them. God wants us to love deeply with all our hearts. That means pride needs to be eliminated from our lives. It means we need to reach out to God to help us get rid of the pride in our hearts.
1 Peter 1:22 “You were cleansed from your sins when you obeyed the truth, so now you must show sincere love to each other as brothers and sisters. Love each other deeply with all your heart.” (NLT)
1. Write ways you are prideful.
2. List the things you do to show love.
3. Remember pride and love don’t mix.
4. Ask God to help you remove the pride and show the love.
Dear Lord, we know we can’t truly love others when our hearts are full of pride. We know You call us to love others but we continue to focus on us. We think about what we can do to look good to others. We go out and buy things or do things that will make us feel better about ourselves. But You know better. You know when we begin to move away from pride and show love to others that it is the best feeling in the world. Show us how to move away from pride and show love. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
We cannot love if we have pride in our hearts.
The best feeling in the world is to show love to others.
God knows we need to move away from our pride so we can better show love to others. He can help us to do this.
Our pride keeps us from truly showing love to others.
When we love others with all our hearts, there is no room for pride.
1 Corinthians 13:4 “Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud” (NLT)
Love is not full of pride. Arrogance is not a part of love.
