October 6, 2017 PRIDE HINDERS COMMUNICATION

Sometimes our pride keeps us from communicating well with others. When we are focused on ourselves and what we look like, what we are going to say next, or what others are thinking about us, we aren’t communicating well. Real communication comes when we focus on the other person. When we are full of pride, we are only focusing on us. When we allow God to speak through us, we are focusing on God.

SCRIPTURE:
Proverbs 14:3 “A fool’s proud talk becomes a rod that beats him, but the words of the wise keep them safe.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write down any proud thoughts you have.
2. List any words you may use that show pride.
3. Know God can help you get rid of your pride.
4. Humble yourself and pray to be a better communicator without pride.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, help us today as we communicate with others. Remind us to remove any proud thoughts or words from our minds so we can focus on others rather than ourselves. Help us to humbly seek Your will in our communication and look for ways to help others. We want to be clear in our communication and not allow our pride to block what it is You want us to say. Help us today, Lord. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
When we speak too proudly about ourselves, we are going to turn others away rather than draw them in so we can share God’s word.

Our pride builds a wall between us and others which keeps us from communicating to them about God.

God tells us to speak with loving and kind words rather than arrogant and haughty words.

1 Samuel 2:3a “Stop acting so proud and haughty! Don’t speak with such arrogance!” (NLT)

When we are proud with our words, we could possibly be crushing the feelings of others.

FOCUS:
Psalm 73:8 “They scoff and speak only evil; in their pride they seek to crush others.” (NLT)

Our words should help others to know God. Pride should never get in the way of telling others about Him.
