October 22, 2017 WHAT KEEPS US FROM SEEING JESUS
Just about every day we hear of those who are following the crowd and the ways of the world. They are refusing to follow the One who created them and the One who can save them from this world. The pride of some of those who want to lead others tends to overpower those who follow them. These powerful and proud leaders are able to rile up the followers to believe just about anything. They can’t see what others need because they are too focused on their own needs. And they can’t see who Jesus truly is.
When we are blinded by our own pride and set in our own beliefs, we won’t see what others need. We should be sure our pride doesn’t keep us from seeing the needs of others and seeing Jesus. We need to be sure we don’t follow the right or wrong crowds but ensure our faith is genuine because of our right relationship with Him. As Rick Warren recently put it: “Living for an audience of One is the best way to live life.”
Exodus 23:2 “You must not follow the crowd in doing wrong…do not be swayed by the crowd to twist justice.” (NLT)
1. List some people you have followed.
2. Write down why you choose to follow their ways.
3. Know you are to only follow Christ.
4. Pray not to be swayed by the beliefs of others.
Dear Lord, we know there are people who follow the wrong crowd. We also know there are times when we tend to go the wrong way in life. Help us today to remember to keep our eyes on You. Help us to remember to keep our pride at bay so we are not thinking we are better than others or that we don’t need You. Give us opportunities to share Your word with others so they will know how to stop following the crowds and start to follow You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
Following the crowd will lead us down a path we didn’t choose for ourselves.
Some people will believe what the majority does because they want to be popular.
We need to be sure we don’t follow the right or wrong crowds but ensure our faith is genuine because of our right relationship with God.
Some believe what the rich and powerful believe because they want to be favored.
We are to make our own decision about who Jesus is and not believe because others do or don’t.
John 7:48 “Is there a single one of us rulers or Pharisees who believes in him?” (NLT)
Sometimes it seems no one in the public eye believes in God but that shouldn’t stop us from believing and obeying Him.
