October 23, 2017 BEING KIND

We are approaching a very busy time of year. This time of year gets busy because of the holidays, the sports, school events, etc. It is easy to get so involved in all these events that we forget about how we are treating others. We begin thinking about all we have to do to get ready for the next party or next event and get wrapped up in our own world. We may get so focused on ourselves that we don’t see someone who needs a little kindness and love. Remember, we can’t be focused on us and ourselves at the same time. Let’s focus on how we can be kind to others during this busy time of year.

Isaiah 58:7 “Share your food with the hungry, and give shelter to the homeless. Give clothes to those who need them, and do not hide from relatives who need your help.” (NLT)

1. Write down some you know who are in need.
2. List the things you can do to help.
3. Ask God to help you stay focused on Him.
4. Seek out the needs of others and ways to help them.

Dear Lord, Your words are speaking to many today. You call us to share our food with the hungry, yet we continue to only buy food for ourselves. You want us to give shelter to the homeless, but we remain in our homes and ignore those on the streets. You want us to give clothes to the poor yet we continue to clothe only ourselves. You want us to be kind to our relatives but we continue to be filled with pride and hold grudges. Show us today, Lord, how to be kind and loving and good to those we encounter. Help us, we pray. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

We can’t be focused on ourselves and others at the same time. Let’s choose to focus on the needs of others.

When we are too proud to help others, we are refusing to obey God.

There are people who are close to us who are in need. Let’s be sure to share with them.

There is something we can give to those in need. Let’s pray about it and seek ways to help them.

God calls us to help others and seek out ways to show them His love and kindness.

Hebrews 13:2 “Don’t forget to show hospitality to strangers, for some who have done this have entertained angels without realizing it!” (NLT)

When we put our pride aside and are kind to others, God smiles.

So true about the busy times coming upon us. Some of it is not even holiday related, e.g.: 3 birthday parties in 8 days (a 30, a 40, and a 60-year old), re-carpeting Mom's entire apartment, helping decorate a venue for a wedding reception are among the activities. However, I am having a grand time making simple dresses for mission work in South Africa. I never had a daughter, so this is my chance to match fabrics, add trims and be in wonder at how a little effort creates a blessing for me and for little orphaned girls.

It would be great if it would go viral to remind us all to be kinder to others!
