October 25, 2017 STAY FOCUSED

Focus is the ability to pay particular attention to something or someone. We may focus on a certain television show. We may focus on a job we are working on. We may even focus on obtaining something we really want or need. Most of the time, we focus too much on us. Focusing on self will lead to pride. Focusing on God, will lead to service. When we put our focus on God, our selfish thoughts will go away. Our wrong attitudes toward others who we, before, believed we were better than them will vanish. God’s power is strong when we focus on Him.

SCRIPTURE:
Romans 8:5-6 “Those who are dominated by the sinful nature think about sinful things, but those who are controlled by the Holy Spirit think about things that please the Spirit. So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write what you focused on the most today.
2. List the things you focus on more than God.
3. Remember pride will keep you focused on self.
4. Pray asking God to remove your pride so you can focus on Him.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we know our focus isn’t always where it should be. We stay focused too much on the things of the world. We stay too focused on what we want to do and what we want to get. Help us, Lord, to stay more focused on You. We want to turn from our sin and live in obedience to You. We want our focus to be on only You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
If we want to truly focus on God, we need to choose to worship only Him.

Focusing on self will lead to pride. Focusing on God will lead to service.

We are to focus on God and all He is rather than focusing on self and what we want.

Colossians 3:2 “Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.” (NIV)

If we want God to listen to us when we pray, we need to worship Him and do His will.

FOCUS:
John 9:31 “We know that God doesn’t listen to sinners, but he is ready to hear those who worship him and do his will.” (NLT)

God will hear us when we pray, when we turn from our sinful pride and seek forgiveness.
