October 26, 2017 POINT TO GOD

Remember as children when we were blamed for things, we would immediately point our finger at someone else and say that he or she did it? Unfortunately, there are still adults who tend to the same. People who don’t want to own up for making a mistake or doing wrong will quickly blame someone or something else so they won’t appear to have done wrong. That is pride. Pride wants us to blame others and pretend we do no wrong. News flash. We all do wrong. Owning up to our mistakes and sins is the right thing to do. We don’t need to do another wrong by lying about it. Rather than pointing our fingers at others, we need to point our hearts and minds to God so we own up to our sins and do what is right.

SCRIPTURE:
2 Peter 3:14b “make every effort to be found living peaceful lives that are pure and blameless in his sight.” (NLT)

Hosea 4:4a “Don’t point your finger at someone else and try to pass the blame!” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write some you know who blame others.
2. List the times or ways you have blamed people.
3. Know God wants us to stop blaming and pointing fingers.
4. Pray to be a godly example to others and do what is right.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we know so many are guilty of pointing fingers and gossiping about others. We all, at times, have said or done things we shouldn’t have. Help us to each look at our own hearts. Search our hearts. See where we are doing these things. We want to see where our own faults are and stop blaming or gossiping. Show us what we need to turn from. Forgive us for these sins. Help us to be a godly example to others showing kindness and love rather than blame and judgment. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
We all have sinned. We need to own up to it, confess it and move past it so we can better do what God wants us to do.

Romans 3:23 “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;” (KJV)

When we point fingers and blame others, we are not setting the right godly example for them.

Rather than pointing our fingers at others, we need to point our hearts and minds to God so we own up to our sins and do what is right.

It is easy to get wrapped up in rumors and gossip. What is hard is to stay focused on God and resist the temptation to join the wrong crowd.

FOCUS:
Isaiah 58:9b “Stop pointing your finger and spreading vicious rumors!” (NLT)

God wants us to stop talking about and blaming others. We can with His help. Seek His help today.
