October 28, 2017 PROUD OBSTACLES

Most of us have been on some sort of obstacle course in life. As a child, we may have had one on the playground where we had to do some running, climbing or jumping to get to the end of the course. In our adult life, we may have went to a gym or building where we participated in an obstacle course for competition or for our health. Obstacles in real life, however, are not that easy to get through. Proud obstacles, for example, keep us from building a relationship with God and keep others from knowing Him. Proud obstacles can also keep us from serving and giving to others. God can help us with those proud obstacles so we can focus on Him rather than ourselves.

2 Corinthians 10:5 “We destroy every proud obstacle that keeps people from knowing God. We capture their rebellious thoughts and teach them to obey Christ.” (NLT)

1. Write about some proud obstacles in your life.
2. List some acts of pride that keep you from God.
3. Know God can help you get rid of prideful feelings.
4. Pray for you and others who are blinded by proud obstacles.

Dear Lord, we pray You will help us recognize any proud obstacles in our lives. Help us to know what proud thoughts we are thinking that hinder us from thinking about You. Help us to see what proud actions we are taking that keep us from doing Your will. You tell us to destroy these proud obstacles and we know we can only do that with You in our lives. Help us today with our thoughts, words and actions so they are more about You and less about us. Help us be less proud and more giving today. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Rather than focusing on how great we think we are, we need to focus on how great God is and give Him the glory.

Proud obstacles are hindering us and others to better know God. What are some proud obstacles we need to move away from?

We should not be proud and say we have accomplished things on our own but give God the glory.

Jesus is our greatest example of how to deal with pride in our lives.

Striving to live in love and be more like Christ will help us move away from pride and better live for God.

Hebrews 4:15 “Instead, we will speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ, who is the head of his body, the church.” (NLT)

Love will overcome and destroy pride every time.
