October 29, 2017 PRIDE AND WORSHIP
Worship is praising, honoring and thanking God for who He is, what He has done and how great He is. When we are praising God we are taking our mind off of us and focusing on Him. There is no room for pride in worship. Why? Because worship is all about God. Not us. Worship is how we praise God. We can’t praise God when we believe we are the greatest thing since sliced bread. Worship is how we honor God. We can’t honor Him when we are focused on us. Worship is about humbling ourselves before God and being grateful for what He has done. We can’t be grateful to Him with pride in our hearts.
1 John 2:16 “For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions. These are not from the Father, but are from this world.” (NLT)
1. Write down how you honor God.
2. List the ways you praise and thank Him.
3. Know pride has no place in worship.
4. Choose to worship only Him.
Dear Lord, help us today to remember we are created to worship You. We know if we don’t worship You, we will be worshiping something or someone else. We may worship our homes. We may worship other people. We may worship our jobs. We were created to worship and if we aren’t worshiping You we are worship idols. Remind us the importance of not focusing on ourselves but focusing only on You. Help us today, Lord, we pray. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
God is able to humble the proud so they will truly know He is God.
We need to be aware of what and who we worship more than God and turn away from those things.
It is important we focus on God and worship only Him so we can do what He has called us to do.
Daniel 4:37b “All his acts are just and true, and he is able to humble the proud.” (NLT)
We are called to acknowledge the Lord is our God every day and humble ourselves before Him.
Psalm 100:3 “Acknowledge that the Lord is God! He made us, and we are his. We are his people, the sheep of his pasture.” (NLT)
We are created to love and worship God. What are we doing today that shows we love and worship Him?
