I need to write a book!

I am going to write a book---
-not for everyone to read----just my Grandchildren, when they are my age---
Of course they can read it sooner, if I'm "up there" watching over them!

This idea all began last evening, with Himself saying to me, "My arm is sore."
"What did you do to it?" I said--
"I have no idea", was his response.
After complaining this morning, again, about the arm, I looked at it, pretty sure there was some kind of bruise there, but saw nothing other than quite a bit of swelling at his elbow--
"Well, it looks like arthritis to me" says me, really not knowing much about anything, him being the Doctor.

And the idea came to me----like a brilliant light from above shining into my brain!
"Too bad you can't ask yer Mom or Dad, if they suffered from pains here and there, all over their body--"--
-That's what I said to him---and that's when I knew I had to write stuff down for our kinfolk to read over and nod their head as they told their spouse--
"It says here that My Dad suffered from Arthritis"-----
(And I might add, his hearing wasn't so hot either)--

Doncha jess wish we could talk to the people who went before us---?

It is week #16, of revamping the fat pudgy chubby body-and----I know I have done WAY better in my eating than if I weren't trying----
Well, what I am saying in a round about way, is------I GAINED .5 OF A POUND LAST WEEK---
I'm not crying about it however---which tells me that I'm still in this for the long haul--

I need to ask all those people in the above picture---the women, who do look a tad hefty also, "Did they worry about their weight, in those days?"
" Could they eat whatever they wanted?"
"Was there ice cream at the grocery then, begging to be brought home?"
and -----the biggy here----"DID THEIR HIMSELFS HEAR EVERYTHING THEY SAID?"--
--seems to me, megaphones then were popular---
Lord love a Duck! WE all need to write that book!

Yes, you should write a book, and it would be a best seller! Sure hope Himself's arm is feeling better.

I Thank God I have my parents and even had my Grandparents and Great-Grandma around long enough to know some of these things. Knowing arthritis runs on both sides of the family, and having knees start to hurt me now are the reason I came back

My dear Granny said to me when I told her I joined Weight Watchers; "You don't need that! All you have to do to lose weight is 'cut back!' " I wondered if she was from another planet. "Cutting back" is not possible for me.

Yes I would love to sit down with my parents and grandparents and talk about the years when they were growing up, married years and family history. When we are young those don't seem to be so important; but as we age, well then it's too late.
I just bet if you write a book for you grandchildren, your children would enjoy reading it too. I think it may be important for us seniors to write all we do know of family history down for our children as far as medical problems in the family. Thanks for another wonderful blog. Some day I will have to sit down and do some type of list for my kids.

I would love to read a book you would write. If it were anything like the writings in your blogs, it would be a delightful read. I love going back and reading some of the things my mother wrote about her life. It brings back a lot of good memories and laughs too. It makes me feel like there is a part of her in her writing. I'm sure your family would love it. You need to keep a copy of all your blogs for them also. emoticon emoticon

If you're into Family History you can get cause of death from death certificates. It is quite useful information to have.......along with all the other stuff you find out doing genealogy! emoticon I started a book about my life many years ago which I still have a copy of but it ground to a halt when other things took precedence over it. At least I have something down on paper if not all of my life and what I can remember of family members. emoticon

Great idea about the book. I never really got to know my grandparents. It would be awesome to have read their diaries to see how things were back then. Love your posts and always get a bit of a chuckle to make my day. We are at 68 degrees here in Florida today. To me it's just hot, even though it's raining. Looks like spring is here at last.

Great Idea! And not just the health things - all the funny things you write the Germans and the, right now, snow.

Those women did not have washers and dryers and microwaves and freezers. They looked that way because a lot of it was muscle. Their life was work!

Hey Jean! I'm a registered nurse and also sounds like arthritis to me. Also, I can't tell you how many times I have tried writing a book and I always put it to the side thinking " I will get to it later" and never do. Hmmmm.....now you've got me thinking that I should start writing again.

I have read that we should try to create a medical family tree for our own health and our children's. It is really important sometimes to know that grandmother or a great uncle or cousin had a health condition that could affect us. this was brought home to me yesterday when I met someone who had recently had an aortic dissection which is very often a fatal condition. She was diagnosed and had surgery in time once she became ill partly because when the doctor thought she was having a heart attack and the EKG was fine she remembered to tell the doctor that two relatives had in the past had had aortic dissection. Now I think that would be really rare because I don't know if that is an inherited condition but it gave the doctors a clue that turned out to be right on point.

I've worked to create a family tree and now I'm going to create a tree that will show health conditions. It won't go back more than a generation or two because people before me didn't always talk...or write about their health much. It will be interesting to see if there are any patterns though. Who knows? It may help my children, grandchildren, or great-grandchildren after I am gone.

Thanks for making me think about this, Lynda!

You should definitely write your book. My Grand mother wrote a book for family of her memories and every so often I take it off the book shelf and enjoy my time with her. Being the youngest member in the rather large extended family I never really had a lot of time to know her and now I do.

I have geneology on both my parents' family. It is a treasure. I am particularly interested in my maternal Grandmother's medical history. She had a LOT going on. Rheumatoid arthritis, blindness (detached retina back in the day), heart disease. My paternal grandfather, on the other hand, was 94 when he passed and had been to Ireland on a tour the year before!

I would love to talk to many of my ancestors! Sheds so much light on who we are, where we come from.

I had a friend who wrote her biography just for her grandchildren - great idea!!

I found out at the end of last year, that one of my grandmothers kept a diary and a cousin of mine had it. My sister is heavily into genealogy and our cousin said they (she and her daughter) were going to give her Grandma's diary. There was a entry in it about the bombing of Pearl Harbor and the President speaking about it on the radio.

My mother kept a diary too, but when my Dad died, she burned them all. I know she wrote in it every day and if nothing else, she wrote what the weather was like and that would have been a good history of the blizzards we had.

I think you could write a very interesting book.

As others have said, a .5 weight gain is not a thing to dwell on. My weight will be up if I have just eaten a meal. Keep on with your daily workouts and eating plan and it should disappear.

I don't know much about what women thought about their weight in the early 1900s. My grandmothers were both heavy. They both worked hard. One helped run a general store with her husband and the other was a nurse and she and her husband had a nursing home and an apartment building. My mother had a large garden, kept a beautiful, clean house and canned the food she grew. She also planted rows of flowers along the back end of her garden.

I wanted to write a book about my parents, mainly about my Dad and had made up titles for chapters at our old house. I thought the chapter titles had been lost in our move here, but I found them in a flip notebook a few weeks ago when I cleaned my desk.

I really need to keep my health history online, not because of my children or grandchildren, but because I can't remember what year I had a surgery or all of my health problems when asked on the spot. If I keep it on my computer, I won't have paper clutter and should be able to find it to take with me to any doctors appointments.

I enjoy reading your blogs and hope you will write a book. You remind me or Erma Bombeck.

I would love to sit down with my grandparents and parents and ask them questions. My grandparents and parents were all farmers so I know their lives were much different from mine. Now that I'm having some health problems, nothing serious, but I would like to know their health histories. I wrote down things that I knew about their health for my children. I plan on writing things down for my grandchildren so they will know more about my life and health. I'm sure your book would be very interesting.

I agree on the book. There are many things I would love to ask mama and daddy. Sometimes I want my family to just have to wonder where they got some things--I am a little meaner than you Lynda LOL Have a great day and hope your temps are getting a little warmer.

I'm posting late, so no new words of wisdom to post. Funny thing, we want to know about all the maladies of our predecessors, but sometimes the knowledge of what might be in our future is scary. For Christmas my husband gave me one of those DNA kits that you send in and they tell you if you are Scot or German or whatever. The other thing was it supposedly hones in on future diseases. It ruined my Christmas. I realized that I don't want to know. He couldn't return it, so he just used it for himself. Poor me, not many Christmas presents. Sigh.

I lost my Mom very suddenly when I was only 32. There are so many times I wish I could talk to her. Now my sisters and bothers are all gone but one brother and he is 91 so is not too interested in the olden days. I'm sure you could write a wonderful book. Go for it while you still can. Perhaps you should think about having it published. I would love to read a book you would write.
