My Fabulous FitBit!

I received a FitBit Alta in early February, and I love it! I find myself getting in more NEAT every day.
Non-exercise activity thermogenesis (NEAT) is the energy expended for everything we do that is not sleeping, eating or sports-like exercise. It ranges from the energy expended walking to work, typing, performing yard work, undertaking agricultural tasks and fidgeting. Even trivial physical activities increase metabolic rate substantially and it is the cumulative impact of a multitude of exothermic actions that culminate in an individual's daily NEAT. It is, therefore, not surprising that NEAT explains a vast majority of an individual's non-resting energy needs. By understanding how NEAT is regulated we may come to appreciate that spontaneous physical activity is not spontaneous at all but carefully programmed.

I have worn a pedometer since September and this helped me to monitor my steps. I find fabulous results from the FitBit. I check my steps often, and I always get in my 10K steps a day. I want to see the fireworks on the FitBit go off! I know it sounds silly, but it motivates me to pick up my feet and move! At 10 am, I have 6.5K steps already. I just might get in my 10K before I leave school today. Who knows?
When it comes to reaching your fitness goals, steps are just the beginning. Fitbit tracks every part of your day—including activity, exercise, food, weight and sleep—to help you find your fit, stay motivated, and see how small steps make a big impact. I like the way that my FitBit syncs to my computer. I have not really joined a FitBit community, but I'm looking into it. I wish that the SparkPeople community was more connected to the FitBit Community.
