10 Days Down... Infinity to Go...

Wednesday, April 04, 2018

So I've been motivated & on track for 10 days down... and so far, so good...

During the 10 days, I have accomplished the following:

1. No soda
2. No alcohol
3. No fast food / drive thru visits until today, as we were traveling all day long

To explain how significant these accomplishments actually are, you have to understand what my habits were like prior to this newfound re-focus...

(1) I work 3 or 4 12-hr shifts each week as a night shift nurse. I used to drink at least 2 (or more) Diet Mt Dew's or Monster energy drinks every night that I worked, and I promise you that they weren't the smaller 20 oz. bottles/cans, but the larger ones. This would result in, on average, 6-10 large caffeinated drinks each week.

(2) I used to have a glass of wine (or two) most nights that I was off from work. In fact, the night before I "restarted" my healthy eating plan, I actually had a fishbowl margarita. This would result in me drinking anywhere from 1-3 bottles of wine per week.

(3) I used to hit the drive-thru on my way to work for my "breakfast", if you call it that. Typically it was Wendy's for a single w/ cheese w/ a sour cream & chive baked potato - I would wolf down the burger on my way to work, and then re-heat the potato a couple hours into my shift. Or my other go-to stop was McDonald's for a double cheeseburger (or the recently advertised Mac Jr) and a 6-pc Chicken McNugget w/ sweet & sour sauce, both of which I would practically inhale during the drive from the restaurant to the hospital. And not only did I hit the drive-thru on the way to work, but if I'd had a "bad night" at work, I would also stop by either of these places on the way home as a treat for surviving the rough night. My choice from McD's would either be 2 breakfast burritos or the sausage, egg & cheese McGriddle, while my stop at Wendy's would result in an Artisan Bacon Egg sandwich w/ their seasoned potatoes & an order of sausage gravy to dip both the sandwich and potatoes in. To be honest, I probably had upwards of 5 visits to a drive-thru each week (if not more)...

No wonder I was almost back up to my heaviest weight ever! But I'm very proud to say that I have gone cold turkey w/ all of that. I will admit that we were on the road all day Tuesday, road tripping to see my new grandson, so we did make one trip thru a drive-thru during the day. However, I did make much healthier choices than I normally do... our restaurant of choice was Spangles, so instead of my usual Gyro, large order of onion rings and Mudslide combo, I instead ordered a turkey pita sandwich & water (no side order, no caffeine).

The first 3 days I did a full-blown "body cleanse", which worked well and dropped 5.6 lbs of what I'm sure was water weight & bloat. But that's okay - it's still a loss. During the last 7 days, I just been trying to eat as "clean" as I can, and make much healthier food choices. So at the end of that week, I dropped another 3.3 lbs, for a nice total wt. loss of 8.9 lbs. so far!

To keep the accountability & motivational reasons, I want to share where I currently am:

Weight: 271.9 (down 8.9 lbs so far)

BMI: 43.7 (down 1.4 so far)

Upper arms: 16.25 in. (down 1/4 in. so far)

Chest/Bust: 50.25 in. (down 3/4 in. so far)

Waist: 50.75 in. (down 3/4 in. so far)

Hips: 53.75 in. (down 3/4 in. so far)

Thighs: 28.25 in. (down 1/2 in. so far)

Calves: 17.25 in. (down 1/2 in. so far)

TOTAL LOSS: 3 1/2 inches (so far)

I feel like I'm definitely still on track, and heading in the right direction... now to just keep it all moving that way! Until next time...

The cleanse is one I get from Wal-Mart.. I've tried various ones over my 25+ years of yo-yo dieting (from GNC, Amazon, our local pharmacy, you name it), and it seems to be the best for results and not making me feel horrible. It's called 7-Day Ultimate Cleanse, and is made by Nature's Secret. I have found that it typically only takes 3-4 days to get rid of the water weight and junk that I have, so sometimes I do the full 7 days, and sometimes I split it in half and just do 3 1/2 days, and save the other half for future use.
