The 20 Day No Junk Food Challenge

Thursday, May 03, 2018

I decided to give myself a challenge, on the 1st. If I gave up junk food for 20 consecutive days, I'd reward myself with a computer game or something up to $20. That's $1/day. I figured I could do that. My son saw me write the challenge on the board I keep on the fridge and he said he wanted in on that too. I've been trying to get him to lose weight because he's dreaming of joining the Navy and he's an emotional eater too.

It's day 2 and we both are going strong! Actually, I may be doing too good because I have to find calories to consume. My 500 something calories could actually put me into starvation mode, and no one wants that! It's all good, I got some tuna steaks cooking and I'll find a suitable side.

What surprises me is that this particular challenge turned off that switch that made me crave that Butterfinger. I couldn't resist it 3 days ago! I swear I'd be in total withdraw mode until I ate one. Now, I don't even look at it and I can fight that inner voice that keeps telling me to get it. I can be a competitive person but I think I just want to add on to my Sims 4 game or something. Who knew being a gamer could help someone lose weight and bust a sugar addiction? We all just need to find the one thing we want more than the food we are trying to avoid. My son wants the $20 more than the junk. I want the addon more than the Butterfinger.

After we finish this challenge, I may do it again as an exercise challenge. OoooOOOOoh!

Thank you. One of the rules that was set is if we cheat one day, we gotta start all over from the beginning. It would be horrible to get halfway through and have to go back to the beginning.

You're off to a good start! Just be careful not to be to extreme at the beginning as the body can lure you into a false sense of security so that you feel it's no big deal to cheat "just this once". I speak from experience. But good on you guys!
