May 12, 2018 STOP EXPECTING
If we stopped to count how many times we have been disappointed in life, we would lose count. Just about every day someone in our lives disappoints us. They break a promise. They don’t show up. They let us down. It may not be intentional but it still hurts. After a while we lose trust with those people. Sometimes we break away from them because we can’t depend on them. People are human and mess up. While their intentions may be good, some may never meet our expectations. When we learn to stop expecting great things from others, we can seek ways to serve them and share God’s love with them instead. And no matter what others have done to us, we are to still treat them the way God wants us to.
Psalm 118:8 “It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in people.” (NLT)
1. Write how you have been let down by others.
2. List the promises they kept and didn’t follow through.
3. Know God always follows through with His promises.
4. Trust only in God. He will never let you down.
Dear Lord, help us to remember not to put our trust in man. Remind us how some cannot be trusted and how others will let us down. We know our trust should only be in You. Help us to stay focused on You. We want to live to obey only You. Show us Your way so we treat others according to Your will despite how they treat us. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
We need to stop expecting great things from others because they will let us down. Our hope and trust should only be in God.
When we trust only in God, we will never be disappointed.
Despite how others treat us we are still to treat them as God calls us to.
When we expect others to do what we think they should do, we will be disappointed.
We are not to put our trust in man because God wants us to trust only Him.
Psalm 40:4 “Oh, the joys of those who trust the Lord, who have no confidence in the proud or in those who worship idols.” (NLT)
Matthew 7:2 “For you will be treated as you treat others. The standard you use in judging is the standard by which you will be judged.” (NLT)
