May 15, 2018 SHOW FORGIVENESS
Probably one of the hardest things we have to do is forgive. And when we do forgive, it is even harder to forget. But forgiveness is possible. God wouldn’t have told us to forgive others if it weren’t possible to do so. When we remember how God has forgiven us for all the things we have done, it will be helpful to us when we seek to forgive others. He knows we are not perfect and we should remember others aren’t either. If we want to get great at forgiving others, we need God. His word and His Holy Spirit can help us forgive others as He has forgiven us.
Colossians 3:13 “Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others.”(NLT)
1. Write about someone you forgave.
2. List the things God has forgiven of you.
3. Know you are called to forgive others.
4. Seek to forgive and ask God to help you let go.
Dear Lord, we want to forgive as You call us to do. We know we sometimes hold grudges. We know we sometimes get so focused on ourselves and our feelings that we don’t want to forgive. We know we sometimes feel as if we are letting others “off the hook” if we forgive them. However, You want us to show love and forgiveness to all people so they can better know You. Remind us it is not about us but it is about You and leading others to You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
Forgiving others is not about us. It is about doing what God says so we can lead others to Him.
It’s hard to show others we are believers when we refuse to forgive them.
We can’t be a great witness to others when we choose to judge and condemn them. We must show them kindness and forgiveness.
Luke 6:37 “Do not judge others, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn others, or it will all come back against you. Forgive others, and you will be forgiven.” (NLT)
If we want God to forgive us, we have to forgive others.
Matthew 6:15 “But if you refuse to forgive others, your Father will not forgive your sins.” (NLT)
