Drifters season finished
Monday, May 28, 2018
I started this earlier and then accidentally deleted it!
That was before I went out and now I'm home trying to catch my breath after spending some time shopping after our performance today.
Anyone who has been around the Awesome A's for a while is probably familiar with the fact that I conduct a small choir that visits several area nursing/retirement homes. I've just finished my first season as the "official director" although I took over the role just over a year and a half ago when our previous director was ill. Eventually he ended up in the nursing home that we visited today.
I'm usually a bit sad when our season ends (we go from October to May) but at the same time it's nice to have the break in the warmer months. Even with the A/C on a the home today it was VERY warm during our performance. While I don't mind the break from the routine, I do miss the camaraderie of the of the group and of course the singing and bringing a smile to the residents of each home we visit. I also count it as a "bonus" workout (I burned 315 calories today!!).
My days I'm sure will fill up quickly enough and it's nice to be able to plan activities and not have to worry about trying to schedule them around my Drifter's commitment. While I hardly think that I'm indispensable to the group, there really isn't anyone else in the group at the moment who wants to stand in front and wave their arms around!
The season has flown by and the summer will too (not that I'm trying to rush it at all!) We'll gather again late in September to sing once more as we practise our program for October. In the meantime the pianist and I may get together "just because" or to sort and file some of the extra music that she has for the group. The Drifters will indeed return again!
