We just spent another lovely week on the Northumbrian coast, this time at Budle Bay. I walked for many happy miles exploring this beautiful coastline.
In the tranquil early mornings, the golden sands and clear blue waters of the bay were mine to share with the gulls and terns.
Some of the wildlife was harder to spot…..
An adorable bunch of tiny ringed plover chicks were camouflaged against the sand until they took off running wildly on their funny long legs.
This linnet’s colours were co-ordinated with the pebbles on the shore.
A shy rabbit hid in the long grass.
And a kestrel hunted overhead on silent wings.
In the sun-kissed afternoons the whole family set off to play on unspoiled beaches and wander through breathtaking countryside.
When the kids are grown and finished school, DH and I would love to retire to this part of the country. At the moment it’s somewhere in between a daydream and a plan. But I aim to keep us all fit and healthy enough to keep enjoying wonderful walks like these for many years to come wherever we end up!

My goodness I did not even see the little plovers until I zoomed in! Your photos are fabulous! I have been MIA, sorry. Facebook and technology and many many projects and activities over the year. I think I'm in a good place right now. My kids ARE grown and done school. In fact 2 are getting married this year. But what you said made me pause. The new bride to be is being very ... independent and organized ... and not needing dear old mum much. I wondered if she is going to ask a certain person to officiate and told myself that should she do that I would take a breath and be gracious. This person has a habit of coming in and becoming the "mom" of my kids when she is around. I have already had to hold my tongue at picking the wedding dress because she was in the middle of things and it seemed every opinion I gave she would put down. She has no daughters and I have a second daughter who I know will lean heavily on my opinions in spring. But... I was feeling a bit of self pity. Now though I am thinking about all the mothering I did for the girls especially keeping them fit and healthy. Lots of being by their sides when they were in need. Yup, I've been there. I am here. If they need me. And they will ask if they do. Thanks and a big 915 days ago

Wow. Thank you for taking on your trip with you. Stunning! It's important to have retirement dreams and plans. My childhood dream that carried throughout my life was to move to Spain. :) 962 days ago

What a dreamy view! I love sandy coastlines, but in Texas the water is dirty green. I know you’re enjoying those children, but I’m glad you’re planning for empty nest - I think that can be a mistake for some couples - I mean, forgetting about themselves during the busyness of raising children. There is a season for all things and your “couples” season can be a wonderful experience with a little dreaming and planning.
