Abram believed the Lord, and He credited it to him as righteousness.
Genesis 15;6

Many people are under the misguided belief that if they can build up their credit column to where they have done enough, been good enough, disciplined enough and obedient enough, they will tip the scales in their favor but this is not true of Scriptures. Justification by faith alone is the essential doctrine of the New Testament and a primary focus in Paul's letter to the Romans. He quotes as the precedent for the believers in Christ being justified by faith, not by work. He then explains, Now to the one who works, wages are not credited as a gift but as an obligation. However the one who does not work but trusts God who justifies the ungodly, their faith is credited as righteousness.
Justification before God does not come from having earned it or paid for it and therefore, we receive it. We are not employees of God earning our keep. As Christians, the scales are already tipped in our favor, not by anything we have done, but what God has done for us through the death and resurrection of Christ. Because we believe in the Lord Jesus, we are justified by faith, and our accounts are already credited in full.

Lord Jesus, thank You for paying the debt for our sins. May we not think our goodness or actions will earn Your favor but rejoice that You love and accept us as we are. Amen
