Changes I'll be making and why

Tuesday, June 12, 2018

Lately, I've concluded that I spend too much time on Spark People. So I'm going to trim. For one thing, I'll start with rarely going to the Community Feed, but might occasionally check the #mobilechat that was good at first, but now its rarely used. The rest of the community feed is not anything like it used to be. I rarely see my SP friends there. If one of my SP friends post there, I'll still make a comment. but I won't be going there and make comments there on random people that I won't see another post by them again. That used to be where we found friends and help each other. That's not happening. I also don't like the underwear pictures. I can tell a fully dressed over weight person is over weight with out looking at them in underwear. I find it offensive. There are things that should be kept private and if you really want to share those pictures, put them in a blog.

Next, I'm cutting my 160 friends down. If you've at least liked some of my accomplishments and comments on my feeds, you're probably safe. Some of my SP friends joined SP and then lasted a few days and left SP. If you've recently given me Spark Goodies, I won't delete you. The ones I will probably delete are those that I give encouragement to all that I can, but rarely if never hear from then. They might go.

The Spark Goodies I like getting them, but I'm really bad about giving them. I don't think of it and time gets in the way. It all takes time. That's why I need to do some trimming.

I plan to still be active in my teams and at least finish the challenges I've committed to do. After the challenges end? I don't know. They aren't a bad thing, but it takes time to keep it up.

I know I'll get less Spark Points, but they are a lot of fluff anyway. All they are really good for is buying Spark Goodies and I already commented on that.

I'll still look at the articles, because I'm constantly looking for things to share at TOPS. I have 2 articles printed out that will probably take 3 weeks to go through.

With the time I don't spend on SP, I'll get back to things that I've neglected for too long. I'll also start crocheting again when riding in the car with my husband. Its a lot more friendlier than sitting with him with my nose in the phone, even though I pause to talk to him.

I know this is a baby step, so more cuts might come later. Some of this, I've already started doing. .

Sounds good. I can see where the computer and SP can start to take over your life. I wish you the best of luck with your decision.

I agree, no need for half naked pictures when a shirt and shorts work as well. And I don't go to spark community that often because I find all of you under my update my status. All you important friends 💕

Good thinking, I understand SP can take a lot of time if we let it! It is also a good thing for me to procrastinate with and not do something else! Good luck whatever you do and I won't be upset if you don't unfriend me, I know its not personal. emoticon emoticon emoticon

Good decision. I'm finding that I spend too much time on here. I find articles that I can use for programs for TOPS also, but am having trouble finding new articles that I feel are appropriate for what I want.

I understand what you are saying. It seems like when I first started the mobile chat was so fun to read and get advice from. I don't know why they took that away. It's hard to know where to get advice anymore. Will post a comment on your page.

I've trimmed my time on Spark several times and frankly need to make a go of it yet again though I'm rejoining a team I haven't posted at for a year or more with a new endeavor on Monday and that will be daily checking in again. I used to track, do friend feed, sparkmail, post on several teams, etc. etc. in the past but found I was on the computer waaaaay too much so have pared down in teams and minimized other activities. I imagine I will do more of the same in the future as well. Like our eating and exercise a nice healthy "balance" is needed. Good luck in finding yours.

I trimmed my friends down too and I agree with you that I am bad about giving spark goodies...as a matter of fact since I do everything on my phone I rarely even go to my homepage!

I think this all sounds so good! I don't spend much time on here except tracking and looking at my Friends Feed. I do do the community feed sometimes but that is a lot to handle and yes, I'm on the laptop a lot when I do that. So I don't do it very often. And the thing is Spring/Summer is my favorite time to be outside, so I am mostly doing that.

I do think you are doing best, spending more time with yourself, your husband, and outside. That is the best for your health! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

All wise decisions, Bea. I've trimmed my friends list several times and I know I should trim teams too. Like you, I feel like I spend too much time on Spark. I'm considering limiting myself to doing 5 things on Spark each day. That would only take me about 10-20 minutes. I can do that very comfortably.

Sounds like you've got a handle on this. Blessings on your journey. It's nice to remember that Sparkpeople is simply a tool and not our lives.
