July 1, 2018 FOLLOWING OUR EXAMPLE

When we were in school and learning to write, our teachers and parents would write out our names and we would trace them until we got good enough to write on our own. We would practice from their example. As young children, we would also watch them in their daily routines in their actions and words. We would watch and mimic what they did because we wanted to grow up and follow their example. We are more influential than we think we are. Our actions and words are watched by others. If others were to follow our example, would we be pleased or embarrassed? We should let our good deeds shine and set a positive example for others.

SCRIPTURE:
Matthew 5:14-16 “You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write out what example you are showing to others.
2. List those who are watching and may be following your example.
3. Know your actions and words are watched by others.
4. Pray for ways to be a better example to others.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, help us to be more aware of what we do and say so we are setting a positive example for others. Remind us daily that our actions and words should reflect we are Your followers. Our words and actions should be in obedience to You and giving You the glory. Be with us to take the right actions today and say the right words. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
As adults, our actions can help or hurt others. Let’s choose our words and actions wisely.

If we want to be a good example to others, we need God in our lives.

We are more influential than we think we are. Our actions and words are watched by others.

We should let our good deeds shine and set a positive example for others.

Good works will produce more good works because we are making an impact on others when we choose to do good.

FOCUS:
Titus 2:7a “And you yourself must be an example to them by doing good works of every kind.” (NLT)
