Sewing Knickers

Wednesday, July 11, 2018

I've been working on a new sewing project for my husband. The outfit that he borrowed last year is no longer available, and I have to make an unusual item.

\ I'm making a pair of knickers from the 1820's. They are actually called "drop front breeches.

John's pair of drop front knee breeches which are long enough to reach just to his upper calves. While there is no official word, it is a common belief like with the rest of his clothes that they are made out of linen, which also is correct for the time period. Their color is dark brown. I'll post a photo of them once I finish them later this week. There is no zipper in these pants. The correct wearing of them looks a little tricky to me.

In August, John and I will be reenacting as The Old Governor Benjamin Pierce and his wife, Anna Kendrick Pierce at the Living History Event here in Hillsboro, NH.
