I was actually scheduled for one of these at the end of last summer. Since mine was a screening and not due to actual medical problems I didn't get the "nice guy" that everyone else gets here. I got another surgeon. I know I'm picky but if someone is going to dive deep into my colon I want them to be nice and friendly. This guy's bedside and backside manner was lacking. He was gruff. I told him I was concerned about my heart arrhythmia and he was like, big deal, you will be on a heart monitor. I got the feeling though that monitoring it would not really interest him. Should I die it would not be any actual loss. I needed this done so I went out and bought all the laxatives and drinks. His prep was a lot more involved than the other doctor's prep so I wasn't too thrilled about that. A week or so before the procedure he cancelled and I took it as karma. He sent a letter in December and wanted to reschedule and I was over it. So I still need one but won't have it unless I can have the nice guy.

I appreciate your tips because if I do decide to have one I will feign both diabetes and fainting. I am not sure what I can eat if I don't have seeds and nuts. i can't stand coffee or beef bouillon. I was not told to avoid the blue Gatorade either. Just red and purple.

I'm hoping that they come up with a better option before I have it cause this one sucks.

Having had colonoscopies on a regular basic since 1994 I will say it has gotten somewhat better. My only problem is that when I had to get a different GI doctor their pre-procedure is completely different then what I had known. The day before the clear diet I had to eat only eggs, chicken, fish, broth, and ice cream no bread rice or pasta. So I was starving the day of the procedure. Seeds have always been a no no. I think it affects the light of the scope and can make it explode according to the doctor I had for a long time. Glad you survived. Next year for me!
