20 Pounds in 3 Months

Monday, July 30, 2018

Is that a reasonable amount? Is my orthopedist being a jerk? I don't know, but i am going to do my absolute best to make it happen. My right knee is so painful now. I have no cartilage in there whatsoever and it hurts when i walk and when i don't walk. It keeps me awake and it reminds me when i am sitting. I just have to get it fixed. I am fortunate. I have short term disability and i am going to increase the amount during open enrollment at work and i will be able to earn 70% of my pay. Then i can have my surgery at the beginning of the year and life will be good. or at least better. Its funny because the fibromyalgia is very quiet right now. I am so thankful for that because i couldn't imagine dealing with that on top of the knee pain. That would be horrible.
Oh, the 20 pounds thing. I saw my orthopedist last week and he told me that i needed to lose 20 pounds by the time he sees me again in 3 months. and then we will set things in motion for the surgery. I am fortunate that i work with these doctors so i have a good relationship with them. But i still feel the stigma associated with the mere word fibromyalgia. I want to scream some times. when i asked the ortho what can i do for the pain of the knee, he kept going on about the weight loss. i grew frustrated and said, i hear you on the weight and i am going to work on that. but is there more i can be doing? a supplement, heat, cold, a cream, a specific exercise, a voodoo spell? (just kidding on that one) i want to make sure that i am doing everything. every single thing.
So, i have bought about 10 different types of fruit. from now on when i get the munchies at home, i am grabbing a piece or serving of fruit and i keep doing that until i am either too full to eat or the craving is gone. Also, i planned out several meals for the week and more importantly, i brought my Sketchers to work with me so i can run to the gym and get on the elliptical for 5 minutes in between appointments and get some quick exercise in. Maybe over the course of a day, i can do an entire hour of elliptical in a day! I sure as heck can't do an hour at a time!
Wish me luck! emoticon

I have had 13 knee surgeries. Ice is a big one. Losing 20 lbs in 3 months is great. My Ortho told me for every pound you lose 9 lbs of pressure is taken off your knees. You have done well. That is 180 lbs of pressure. Good luck to you.

That sounds realistic, but everyone's body works differently.

I have had symvisc shots the oil base in both knees. Good for up to a year. Sometimes when walking a lot I put on both knees a sleeve no hole in knee. I am 71 and obese so you can do something. Don't know who your ortho is. Shop around.

With weighing about 270 lbs it is very tiring and I have back issues too. I do what I can just a little at a time and then I have to rest.

20 lbs in 3 months is not unreasonable. Keep in mind that the weight loss is going to happen based on what you do in the kitchen for your calorie intake. Exercise is important, but your weight loss will be from your diet.
