Why is it important to me to lose weight?

If you are struggling to define your "why" one thing to consider is whether or not you have a personal or emotional investment in what you are trying to accomplish. If the answer is "no," then you need to go back to the drawing board and start over. Try asking yourself these three questions:
Why is losing weight important to me?
Why does that reason matter?
Why do I feel strongly about that reason?
Once you have determined your "why," the motivation to change should be obvious.

Previously, I answered those questions impatiently, shallowly. obviously -- and obliviously....
I want to lose weight because I want to look prettier and wear prettier clothes and feel younger.... and I didn't realize these were externally imposed societal values.
YES, I want to lose weight (and keep it off). Yes, it is because I want to look better. WHY? (It turns out that it isn't just vanity...) Because it makes me FEEL better -- I move more fluidly, feel more energetic, spend less time with knee or lower back pain from carrying the extra weight. Because with all that, I can travel more and enjoy my life more. And because smaller clothes come in styles and colors I like more -- which are a truer reflection of who I am. Because ultimately, I feel the love for myself more when I'm slimmer. And when I feel love, I heal and am less wounded -- I can give love more.
And when you give love more -- when love dwells within you and flows around you and through you, what happens?
