The car dealer in my older age!

Voted Popular Blog Post: View All Popular Posts

I am at car dealer, getting an oil change on our vehicle.
And can yu believe it? I am blogging here in the waiting room.
I drove the car into what looks like a living room---and they will take it into their "Bay" to service it!
This is a "Woman's Dealership, for sure!

I am connected to their Wi Fi here,--(I hope that back at home I will be able to reconnect to our Wi Fi)--so, here I am, in their waiting area, sitting on a leather sofa, with a TV on in front of me.
I love it!
All my life, Himself always had our vehicles serviced at dark, oily smelling, dismal, very inexpensive, off the main road places--
I never even knew that servicing a car in a place like this would ever exist!

I love this place!

So, perhaps there are nice things that happen as one ages---
It certainly is worth exercising and eating healthy so one can reach that time in life!
Lord love a Duck eh?--
There really are reasons to love Spark!

It happens as one ages for sure!

We have a Toyota dealership here that has pedicures and manicures while your vehicle is being serviced. emoticon Now I have a VW Beetle and we get lattes and newspapers, but no mai-pedi... emoticon

I agree with you. The places to take a car for repair and maintenance have gotten much nicer and fancier than they used to be back in the day. However, the service isn't always any better! I took my car to the dealer two days ago - fancy waiting room, wifi, TV with cable, free bottled water and coffee, and even free snacks - a whole huge box of them, straight out of any convenience store - but I still had to wait *seven hours* for them to look at the car and tell me what it needed. And I didn't get it back until the end of the next day, so another eight hours. Sigh.

I'm glad you had a better experience!

I have been in car servicing places like that , also. Where I take van to now, I feel he has taken me under his protective wing due to my clueless knowledge of the workings of the van. A friend actually felt I needed to learn how to change an air filter and was showing me. I humored her. But really? When I have the leather coach and wifi waiting for me!

DH and I will be taking our car to the dealership next Tuesday after Radiation. The O2 sensor is mis-reading so they said we'll have to leave it as there was also a recall. So they said we can only get a courtesy car that is a Lincoln because that is what we have. How about that? We'll be driving a new Lincoln around for a day or so. The dealership is awesome and they cater to the customer there. They'll even wash our car! I am in total awe.

Things really have changed for the better when waiting for a car repair! I just recently had my car repaired and my repair shop had a wonderful TV, comfortable seating, restrooms off to the side of the room, but best of all I learned how to use one of those Keurig Coffee m Makers with the little pods. It was my firstexperience with the kind of things and I was impressed how quickly it worked and how delicious the coffee was. I almost hated to go home when my car was finished!! :-)

Hubby takes his car for oil changes to the dealership where he bought it. They offer free doughnuts, hot dogs, subs cut into pieces and popcorn, depending on what time of day it is. My husband loves going there for the free eats. The oil changes are free too, since he bought the car there. I don't know about the other stuff.

We took my van to a mechanic our neighbor recommended. The mechanic's wife was our neighbor's daughter. She kept calling to say her husband found something else wrong with the van. The bill was up to $700 and I told her to stop him from working on it. She died this year from a massive heart attack, she was 40 or 41. I never took my van back there.

Yes, the dealerships' service department waiting areas have become much nicer. But, don't let it fool you about some of their remaining attitudes about women. I recently bought a new car, but although not horrid, I had to "fight" a few things. First, I forewarned them that I would not negotiate on a car without driving it. When I decided I wanted a particular car, they tried to pressure me to negotiate without test driving, but conceded once my voice started to raise. (It was a floor room car, and they had to move other cars out of the way.)

I had also forewarned them that I was paying cash for any car I purchased and, wow, they obviously didn't want to believe I had enough money. They asked for my drivers license, which is pretty standard, but then made some comment about how I looked younger (yes, younger) than the age on the license, and waited for me to justify the "discrepency" (Told them my mother had good skin genes, so it was genetic). Then they asked for my social security number. I asked if they were going to run a credit check because I had frozen all my credit due to being a victim of various data breaches, and the sales rep said no, they just needed it for their records. Since I know certain size purchases have to be reported to the Federal Govt, I gave it to them, thinking this was the situation.

Then, when I was writing the check, the manager made some comment that if the check bounced, we would have to come to an understanding. It briefly crossed my mind to end it right there, but it had been at least 3 hours from the time I set foot in the shop and did not want that time wasted, so let the comment pass. Well, then once they got the money, they spent only about 5 minutes walking thru the car and how to operate it--mind you this was the first new car I got in 10 years, so NOTHING was familiar to me on the dashboard and I had let them know this upfront.

Well to speed up an already too long story, as I was driving home there were issues as I didn't know how to do things like turn on the back windshield wiper nor how to get the air conditioner to actually blow on me as the controls were all different from my old car (and I never had a back windshield wiper before). I get home and lo and behold, I get a credit alert that they ran a credit check, which they said they were NOT going to do. I then angrily called the VP of Marketing and Sales at the dealership, reamed him up one side of the face and down the other explaining everything that happened.

Ever since, they have been very nice to me, offering me a tank of free gas, various free car washes, etc.

They do make the whole experience much more pleasant for the ladies than they used to! Our tire shop is the same. They even have a coffee bar and fresh popcorn available for keeping children busy.

My dealership has the best coffee machine, popcorn, candy, soda, soft leather seats and Direct TV. Good thing I don't have to service my car often. They also take me home and pick me up when it's done. But not before I get my great coffee :)

I rarely go to the dealership (with all the amenities). Both my cars are old, and are very well taken care of by the mechanic who is only a block away. So I take the car in, walk a block home, and have the amenities of my own house.
