Making Cookies for My Mom!
Saturday, September 29, 2018
Hot homemade chocolate chip cookies are part of my childhood memories. On special occasions, my mother would have cookies ready when we came home from school. I loved my mother's thoughtful, loving gesture, and passed it on to my own children.
Today I will remind my mom of the fact that she was (and still is) a good mom, and that she knew how to show that love to her children. When I visit my grandkids in Florida, I will make them warm chocolate chip cookies. I would not be surprised if my son also has fond memories of the Nestle Toll House semi-sweet chocolate morsels. Once when he was overseas in the USMC, I sent him a package of cookies, and he ate them all without sharing even one. It helped him deal with homesickness. I'm sure he had a belly ache after, but his heart was full of love.
Some of my sweetest family memories are connected to food that my mother made for me. No matter how I slice and dice it, food and love are inextricably tied. A healthy and delicious dinner always makes me smile. Maybe all I need is love, the the chocolate chip cookie now and then never hurt.
Do you have a food that connects you to family and love?
