The Painter Still Speaks

Norman Rockwell continues to speak to me, and I remember the first time I heard his voice.
I was looking at this picture that he had created, and I felt so peaceful.
Norman spoke to my heart through his painting, and this is what he said:
"Your son Matty will be home from being overseas with the USMC and he will be fine. Don't fret! You're not the only person looking for his safe return."
Day after day, I looked at the painting and heard those words. Day after day, I found new strength to keep my faith strong and make it through another day. Days were tough after 9/11 with the Reconnaissance Marines. I would have to wait over a month at a time to hear from Matty. I prayed constantly, and felt the constant pressure of "not knowing".
My imagination wanted to go to some very sad places, but I would look at Norman's painting, and find peace.
About two years later, there was a very happy homecoming. My son's days in the service were over! One morning as I walked into the dining room, Matty was sitting at the table, staring at the painting. I'm sure that he also heard the painter speak to his heart.
I passed the painting on to another mother who needed to hear Norman Rockwell speak to her. Have you ever had a painter speak to you through a work of art?
