Sing praise to the Lord, you saints of His, and give thanks at the reverence of His holy name.
Psalm 30:4

Before coming to Christ, John Wesley, the founder of Methodism, traveled from England to Georgia as a missionary, but the experience was a failure. As he returned home in frustration, his ship ran headlong into a terrible storm. Wesley was terrified, nut he couldn't help noticing a group of German Christians aboard the ship. They trusted God so completely they held a worship service in the storm. In the middle of their singing a wave rose over the vessel and bore down like Niagara. But the Christians didn't miss a note. Wesley realized the Germans believers had something he didn't have; and through their influence he shortly afterword trusted Christ completely and felt his heart strangely warmed.
Trusting Christ enables us to sing in the storm. Our Lord gives songs in the night and He teaches us to sing songs of deliverance as we wait on Him. An old hymn says "Singing I go along life's road, praising the Lord, praising the Lord." Others, noticing the melody of our lives, will be drawn to Christ. Today sing a song of deliverance. Sing a song of praise.
To God--the Father, Son, and Spirit--One in Three, Be glory as it was, is now, and shall forever be.

One of the things I love about hymns and praise songs is that I can call on them at a moment's notice; they are often good reminders when I find myself struggling!

You made me think of something that happened 35 years ago. I went to another church congregation with a friend for a Christian conference. It was held in an auditorium so when I walked in my initial judgmental thought was...this cannot possibly be good, it is not in a real church building like I attended.

But to my surprise, they were singing in their Spirit languages and it was the most powerful experience of God I have ever encountered. I was truly born again that day and received the Baptism with the Holy Spirit. I have been on fire for God ever since. God truly does inhabit the praises of His people! emoticon

If you have time, read the story behind the writing of It is well with my soul. That man had amazing faith.

2Ch 20:20 And they rose early in the morning, and went forth into the wilderness of Tekoa: and as they went forth, Jehoshaphat stood and said, Hear me, O Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem; Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.
2Ch 20:21 And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed singers unto the LORD, and that should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army, and to say, Praise the LORD; for his mercy endureth for ever.
2Ch 20:22 And when they began to sing and to praise, the LORD set ambushments against the children of Ammon, Moab, and mount Seir, which were come against Judah; and they were smitten.

Wow did I need to read this one as my storm has not even reached land yet. Like a hurricane 5 coming in full force with its destruction anticipation and preparing for its forceful power only God can calm as I cry out to Him for His peace, His miracle, His grace and mostly His protection
