We celebrate our Veterans one day/year officially. I personally feel that we should celebrate our Veterans every day of the year. If it weren't for them, our lives would be very different.
In my own family, my Great-Grandfather escaped from Germany to avoid what Hitler was doing. He was part of the resistance and was nearly caught. It was a miracle that he escaped at all. My Grandfather was in the Army and fought against Hitler in France. He spent months in a fox-hole and his feet were never the same due to being constantly wet. He held his best buddy in the fox-hole while he bled out.
My father was in the Navy in World War II and was a radio-man in a destroyer in the Pacific. He narrowly missed being in Pearl Harbor during the attack, but my Uncle didn't and died in the first wave of planes.
My brother was in the Army in Viet Nam and still has a difficult time talking about what happened over there.
My nephew served as a Marine in two tours of duty in Iraq.
I can't even imagine being in a war situation and living from day to day not knowing if you would return to your home and family. We owe them SO MUCH.
And THANK YOU to all of the Allies who came together to defeat the oppressors.
