Today was the most anticipated surgery for Herb. Dr was going to go in take a fluid sample, stitch him up and send him home.
Instead of a little two in incision the doctor had to cut his leg about six inches. Instead of a quick grab and go he had to dig around, got some fluid and some tissue. Instead of sending him home he had him admitted for the night to pump him with good drugs and antibiotics.
Dr was not happy with what he found. He said there was a lot of scar tissue. When I asked what from he was a little vague but made it sound like the injury tried to heal and then got re-ripped and tried to heal, etc etc.
Dr was very tight lipped about what the next step is. He made it sound like repairing the tendon with all the scar tissue was going to be a problem.
Right now we are playing the waiting game again. Dr said it will take up to two weeks to get the results as some of them have to grow a culture. He will have some preliminary results sooner.
It was not the news we were hoping for and we are a little disappointed. The prospect of losing the leg has gone from slim to a little more than slim. It’s a hard pill to swallow.
This is going to be a long hard road for both of us physically, mentally and emotionally. Please keep us in your prayers.
