Garage Clean Up - November 2018

Thursday, November 29, 2018

On November 10th I stated my next big project….cleaning out my garage. Over the years my garage had become a dumping ground. So much stuff and junk and garbage had accumulated over the years and I finally had enough.

Here is a picture on 11/10/18 when I first started:

Over the course of 3 weeks I went to the garage every Saturday and set my alarm for 2 hours. I worked my fingers to the bone, I threw out at least 15 large construction bags full of garbage and have a nice size tote filled with metal that I will take to the recycling center. The last week (Thanksgiving week) I worked two hours on Friday and then two hours on Saturday to finish it up. That was a total of 8 hours of work and this is what it looks like now:

I have come to realize that I have a lot of storage space in this garage if I just utilize the shelves instead of just dumping everything into the middle of the floor. This weekend project is to clean off the front porch and move everything I can down to the SHELVES in the garage.

I love working on messy projects that when you are done you can see your results and feel good about what you accomplished!

You did an amazing job!!! I want to take you lead on my guest room and bedroom. There is so much stuff we moved around with getting rooms ready and closets emptied for our family guests we had for months this summer. My daughter moved to Germany, so her room is filled ot the rim with stuff she will never need again, and did not want to take. SO MUCH STUFF!!!! I am ready to set my timer for 2 hours tomorrow and Wednesday (my two days off) and do what you did. I think a before picture will be in order. Thank you so much for inspiring me to finally get my affairs in order!

Good work and amazing discipline in getting your garage sorted out.

Isn't it amazing how stuff just accumulates and then becomes overwhelming? I went through the coats and sweaters today and had a big pile to clean that will go to my church for the homeless. While I was in there I pulled out the bags. There were tote bags, purses, duffel bags, gym bags, back packs, and the all the eco-friendly shopping bags. Yikes, there was quite a pile. Some went into the trash, the rest will go to Goodwill or Salvation Army.

It sure felt good to find some extra space in the closet. Somehow it makes me feel lighter to have the stuff gone.

Great job! We know that when one is "right in the world" there is less clutter and less food and less stress and more enjoyment of life! Just imagine the hours saved from having to look for something and the less strain on the body by not having to bend and reach in bad ways to get to something. emoticon

    Fantastic work!

Hardest part for me is just deciding to get rid of stuff, since there's always some memory or some "I could imagine using this thing at some point in the future even though it's been sitting there untouched for the last three years" factor holding back my trashing finger.
