It feels good and I forgot to diet!

December 5th! Wow what a year. As I do every year, this was going to be the year. I was determined to be in onederland for my birthday in October. I tell myself this every year, actually, and it never seems to happen. Mostly because I don't do anything about it, but this year has been different. I started January at 233.5 ugg! How could that be? Well, lots of eating and no exercise may have something to do with it. We "found" an elliptical on the side of the road about 5 years ago, we had moved it to our new house 2 years ago, and I might have jumped on it a few times, but nothing consistently.
This year for Lent, I said 30 minutes a day, adding 5 minutes every week until Easter. No wine, no chocolate (really no desserts), and then I can go back to my real life...ummmm, I felt pretty good by Easter. I was up to an hour a day on that bloody thing, and felt like I wasn't done...so I kept it up. After Lent I went back to wine, but now, not a bottle a weekend, more like a glass every once in a while (I've had maybe 3 bottles since April). I have desserts but now it's a treat, not something we keep in the house. And I elliptical almost every day. 5-6 times a week. Because I didn't know this was my new life, I didn't take measurements, at first.
I weigh in every day. For me, it's being accountable. I only record once a week, Wednesday's. I now measure every 3 months, and take accountability pictures every 3 months. This month was the measurements. I have lost NINE and a half inches in the last 3 months, WHAT? As of today I have lost 39.5 pounds (since January). I eat desserts, I have pizza, I make lasagna, we go out to dinner. But I now don't do all those things in one week. We went to Maine for thanksgiving and I ate fudge (OMG fudge) and I came back up 3 pounds. I put my head down and worked that fudge off. I personally can't say I won't eat "X" but I know if I want it I have to make sacrificies, and for me that's working...today. I try to eat lower "white" carbs, I do fringe Intermittent Fasting, and I watch what I eat. I went into thanksgiving week saying I would like to be 188 by 1/31, and maybe that will happen. I would rather be that number by mid January. I won't deprive myself over the holidays but be more mindful.
I'm 58 years old, I made it to onederland for my birthday, and now onto the next mini goal. SparkPeople has been a HUGE help for me. This year I have logged on every day (currently at 376 days) and I get 90 minutes of exercise every week. Even when we go on vacation, and do lots of driving I am making sure I am moving! I can't wait to see what 2019 will bring!
