Greetings from New Zealand 3

7 days into my new routine and I am becoming more familiar with the website and tracking of food/fitness. I am discovering new areas every day as I explore. I look at the reports to see how my overall nutrition is going and notice that my iron levels and a few others are a bit low on a daily basis. I need to figure out how to adjust what I eat each day in order to balance everything out and make sure that I am getting all the vitamins etc that are required. However I won't do that until after a few weeks have passed and I can see a pattern emerging. I am happy with my progress so far and find it interesting to be able to monitor the quality of what I eat for the first time. I ordered an electronic bathroom scale which will hopefully give me a more precise weight readout than my analogue scale which can vary by anything up to 5Kg depending on where and how I stand. My son, who has been here for 3 days finishing off painting my house roof, has returned to his home in Invercargill. The plan over the next few months is for me to sell my house and move back to Invercargill to live with him. Something else to look forward to.

    Welcome fellow Kiwi :-)

Be aware that not all nutrients are shown because it isn't compulsory to do so for much of it, including iron. You "COULD" be getting more than you think.

I found when I first joined SP many years ago, I spent a long time exploring the articles. I actually found it good because it helped me to keep my calories a bit lower, because I was so interested in what I was reading (mainly the Nutrition Articles, as opposed to the message boards) that I forgot all about food LOL!

I have always tracked my food, even before joining spark, however I used to write it on paper and work it all out manually. I only joined SP to use the Nutrition Tracker. I weigh all of my food for increased accuracy. That ensures that you don't over-eat, and I entered it all into the Nutrition Tracker. I have been maintaining for a few years and I STILL weigh all of my food and enter it into the tracker. I am determined that I don't revert, even a little bit, to being overweight again, like I was for 30 years .... on a very healthy diet and a diet people don't normally gain weight on, and in fact, one that my Registered Dietitian said that most people my size would have been able to lose weight.

Good luck with reaching your goals,
    Kris
