Looking Forward to 2019 – or Not?
Thursday, December 27, 2018
We are only a few days away from 2019 and I’m excited to see 2018 end. It has been a long and trying year…..but is 2019 going to be any better? I am staying positive and will keep moving forward to make it a good and productive year. I know I am going to have a lot of obstacles in my way but I know with my good Sparks-friends I will make it through in one piece.
For those who read my blogs or is on a team with me, you know of my boyfriends’ knee issues. We just found out on Wednesday that the first of the two + surgeries will take place on January 28th, as long as he gets clearance from all his doctors.
This first surgery will be to take the replaced knee out, put in a block of anti-biotics, and put him in a straight cast for up to 3 months. The reality of this is starting to hit me. He will most likely have to be in a wheel chair, which is fine but my house is not set up for a wheel chair. I am thinking we are going to have to re-arrange and move a lot of things around to accommodate him. Then there is the issue of getting him to doctor appointments, he probably will not be able to drive and for that matter how am I going to get him into a car? I’m starting to freak out.
My friends at work told me I have a month to figure it out and maybe have an occupational therapist come to the house to see what needs to be moved, removed and changed to accommodate him while he is in a straight cast. Also they said we may need ambulance service to get him to and from his appointments. I am not really sure where to start but I am going to have to start looking into things to get everything in place by the time he gets home from the hospital.
Any advice or thoughts you have to help me with this will be greatly appreciated!!
As for me, my uncle contacted me about a week ago to tell me he had to have surgery on his heart and the condition he has is genetic and every one of his siblings and all of their children need to be tested for this defect. It is a Bicuspid Aortic Valve. I do not believe I have anything to worry about because I have been to the cardiologist in the past but did make an appointment for January 3rd to have them specifically look for this issue.
Fitness wise – I AM ON TRACK! I am exercising and will continue to exercise on a regular basis along with eat well, staying in contact with my spark-people friends, never forgetting to ask for help and most importantly taking time for myself. I am staying positive that although I know the road is going to be bumpy – I know I am heading in the right direction and praying all the surgeries take cake of Herb’s issues and he is able to walk again!
