The Scrap Basket

Money was tight, and that’s one reason why my mother sewed. Mom bought her fabric from the local department store called Giants. I think that she paid about $1 a yard. Today I pay up to $12 for specialty fabric. My mother's scrap basket is a treasure of the many projects that she's produced throughout her life. There are still some old scraps of the jumpers in Mom’s room. She saved every little scrap for quilts, patches, and other projects. Mom shared her scraps with me when I was a little girl. I made my doll dresses with the fabric in my mom’s scrap basket.
Today I have a scrap basket too. And just like my mom, I often save things not worthy of being saved. Every so often, I have to remind myself that some pieces of fabric are too small to save. I guess the apple did not fall far from the tree. I often use my scrap basket when making Christmas Tree ornaments and parts of my felt books. This summer when my Lina, Gabby and Shiloh Rose come to visit, I will share my scrap basket with them.
The scrap basket can be a great place to share old memories and make new ones!
