Are your resolutions going to stick?
Tuesday, January 01, 2019
In this season of resolutions and goal setting, many of us are looking for ways to break old, unhelpful habits and create new, beneficial habits. Despite our best intentions, our approach often sets us up for failure. James Clear (author of Atomic Habits) offers insight on why habits don't always stick. I wonder if Spark Guy has read Clear's book. They seem to be on the same page (punny!).
Mistake 1: Trying to Change Everything at Once; Solution: Pick one thing and do it well.
Mistake 2: Starting With a Habit That is Too Big; Solution: Start with a remarkably small habit
Mistake 3: Seeking a Result, Not a Ritual; Solution: Focus on the behavior, not the outcome.
Mistake 4: Not Changing Your Environment; Solution: Build an environment that promotes good habits
Mistake 5: Assuming Small Changes Don't Add Up; Solution: Get one percent better each day.
My BDS friends will recognize some of these mistakes and solutions. Check out the Beck Diet Solution team - more than 1300 members strong.
