"Everyone fits in somewhere."
"Look at you! You lost a lot of weight! Hold on a sec….."
A priest at a parochial school, wanting to point out the proper behavior for church, was trying to elicit from the youngsters rules that their parents might give before taking them to a nice restaurant.
“Don’t play with your food,” one second-grader cited.
“Don’t be loud,” said another, and so on.
“And what rule do your parents give you before you go out to eat?” the priest inquired of one little boy.
Without batting an eye, the child replied, “Order something cheap.”
It's JoyGerm Day! Today is meant to smile, hug, grin and win over at least one grumpy grouch. JoyGerms Unlimited, created by Joan E. White in 1981, wants us to radiate positivity, kindness, courtesy, and optimism. It's Argyle Day! A diamond pattern of overlapping diagonal lines, the argyle comes from the tartan of Clan Campbell, a clan of Argyll, Scotland. It's Bubble Bath Day (yeah, I think a lot of us can get behind this day; enjoyed by all, soaking in the bubbles can feel like pampering luxury), Earth's Rotation Day (commemorates the experiment by French physicist Jean-Bernard Foucault on Jan. 8, 1851; to prove the earth rotates on its axis, Foucault suspended a 5 kg weight from a pendulum over a bed of sand; from the traces of the weight in the sand, Foucault was able to prove the earth's rotation on its axis), English Toffee Day (a buttery toffee made with almonds; also known as buttercrunch and is the basis of the Heath candy bar), Poetry at Work Day (based on the idea that creative managers are better managers overall, this day encourages managers and workers to put forth their best creative efforts), Shop for Travel Day (today celebrates the joy of travel and the innovations that make travel planning easier and more cost effective), War on Poverty Day (commemorates the day in 1964, President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the legislation with the unofficial name of War on Poverty; the act created the Office of Economic Opportunities to administer funds to fight poverty), Typing Day (mainly celebrated in Malaysia, speed tests are sponsored there; there may be contests elsewhere), Show and Tell Day at Work Day (to encourage greater understanding between coworkers, today is meant for each to share a hobby or memento with your coworkers and learn about their passions), Winter Skin Relief Day (a day to remind us to take extra care of our skin during the cold of the winter months), and it's Elvis Presley's birthday, born this day in 1935.
