Winter Challenge Success !

Saturday, February 16, 2019

I have learned, for me, to make something work in my plan to eat healthy and exercise more, I need to persevere, long enough with a new eating or exercise plan, until it becomes a regular habit. You need to stop and think about your plan before you eat. It takes time to figure out how to approach those away from home eating challenges. That party, evening out with friends, or dinner at your favorite restaurant with family. It has taken time, I have figured out what favorite restaurants have menu items I can eat with out blowing my daily calories in one meal. Looking at those calorie counts is mind boggling .....no wonder I had a weight problem. Now if I there is nothing low calorie on the menu, I ask for a to go box when my meal arrives, split it in half or thirds and take the other yummy calories home for 2- 3 other meals. Have those favorite dishes, but in realistic portions, with the extras off you plate !

That and being a slug, when it came to exercise. Contributed to my obesity condition for way to many years. I could find every excuse in the book to avoid working out in the past. Still find taking 1/2 hour to get the gym work out and get home (couple of hours of time) hard to face. So walking is my main exercise now. Doing 30 minutes daily, first thing in the morning before life gets in the way. Out there rain, snow or sun shine. You need to plan this as well . You need the clothes to keep you comfortable in the bad weather. Now walking in the rain is one of my favorite things. I am not a fitness guru by any means, but gradually changing one habit at a time.

Music has become a part of my walking routine as well, as gives me something to listen to on walks and walking to the different beats of songs varies my pace and gets the heart pumping. Grab your phone, check out some music on I Heart radio.I find myself dancing in my kitchen sometimes to the music also.( Don't tell anyone! LOL It's our secret OK?)

My take on this is: I have gone from on a good day, about 3000 steps to 10,000 plus a day. Has taken many weeks, of one step at a time. To feeling good, and looking forward to moving more easily and being happier in my skin. Make a plan and put it in action. Have a great weekend.

This is wonderful! You are finding your way. I often look at a restaurant's menu on line before going in, and the easiest thing for me to order is burger without the bun. The fries are my sabbatoger, so I avoid them when I am strong. I also avoid places that use too much salt. Applebee's is not my friend for this reason.

Hmmm...walking in the rain. I do know I like to walk with a drizzle to cool me, but I don't like too much rain. Do you bring an umbrella? Do you wear a raincoat? Don't you get too hot? Tell us you successful secrets to walking in the rain. emoticon

    Thanks for the comments everyone

. IAM1SKINNYGIRL I know what you mean about food. I think it will always be a challenge even when we are at our "Happy Weight" . There are so many hidden pitfalls in food, especially processed food. That is why I am going clean....eliminating processed foods. Making what ever I can from scratch so i know what is in it.

I totally agree. Just got back from my walk with my dogs. The earlier I exercise the better my day is. The food is still a challenge. However, I am getting better!
