Never compare your journey to someone else's!

Let me preface this by saying that I completely understand that everyone's weight loss journey is different. I have 100 lbs to lose but someone who has 20 lbs to lose may have as much difficulty losing it as I will with my much larger amount. We both deserve equal support, cheerleading, and compassion.

My best friend is super supportive of my weight loss journey. She's currently working on losing 20 lbs. We are very open with one another about our progress, our struggles, when we fall off the wagon, etc. Whenever I have a nice loss, say, 3 or 4 lbs, she'll say, "I'm so jealous! I'm only losing about 1 lb/week." I always politely remind her that I have *significantly* more to lose, which is why my numbers are higher.

I'm a very direct person but my best friend is lovely and the comments are pretty rare so I won't tell her that it irks me a little bit when she says this. Instead, I'm letting it be a reminder to me to never compare my journey with someone else's. Would she love to lose 4lbs/week? Sure. Would she want to be 100 lbs overweight in order to attain that number? Nope. I know that there are some amazing weight loss warriors on Spark who have significantly more weight to lose than *I* do and they are likely losing more per week than I am.

It's so easy to get caught up in comparisons but it's not healthy. My friend is envious of my larger losses, while I'm envious of her smaller total goal. When I catch myself feeling like this, I think about the things I'm doing for myself that make my journey tailored to *me*. I'm exercising like crazy, including lots of strength training, so my body is starting to take on some insane shape! By exercising, I'm forcing myself to take a little time out for myself each day...time when I'm not the mother to an infant boy, or a wife, or a cook, or a maid. While I love wearing all of those hats, my exercise time is about *me*...about how hard I can push myself...clearing my head so I am at my absolute strongest mentally and emotionally...focusing on the future body I'm going to have.

I love my journey and I wouldn't trade it with anyone else's emoticon

Why do you love *your* weight loss journey?
