Girl Scout Day

Thursday, March 14, 2019

This is our assignment for the Aspire and Inspire sparkteam: March 12 is Girl Scout Day. Were you ever a Girl Scout? What kind of activities did you do? Do you buy Girl Scout cookies?

I was a Girl Scout for 8 years. Being a Girl Scout was a great experience. We had two great leaders, which I think makes all the difference. They were both mothers of girls in my troop, and they planned great activities. Here are some of the activities I remember:
-arts and crafts
-service projects
-a trip to explore some caves in Tennessee
-a trip to the beach in Florida

We earned lots of badges. I still have my Girl Scout vest with all my badges on it. Here is a picture of it:

We sold Girl Scout cookies every year, and I still buy them today to support the Girl Scouts.

Being a Girl Scout taught me a lot, gave me a lot of great experiences, and gave me some lifelong friends.

I tried brownies and guides but didn't last more than a few weeks at either!...

It sounds like you had a great experience and many great memories of being in the Girl Scouts. That's really neat that you still have your vest! emoticon emoticon

I was a girl scout, as was my daughter. I dropped out when it became "uncool" to be a scout, and I am sorry for that. My daughter was a scout from kindergarten through 12th grade. I also am very happy and proud to support the scouts through girl scout cookies. I love your vest!!

Sounds like you have a lot of wonderful memories on being in the Girl Scouts! You are right that having the right leader really makes a difference. That is so cool that you posted a picture of your vest --that’s a lot of badges! We had a sash instead of a vest. I think I still have mine packed away in one of my memory bins.
