The Power of a Minute!

I've been taking a mindfulness class at work from the Brown University Mindfulness Center, and the instructor posted a video on one minute meditation this week The video: www.youtube.com/

has an unexpected twist at the end - I won't spoil it if you haven't watched it yet!

Before the holidays I had a 20 minute/day meditation practice going, but between holiday travel and getting sick several times it fell by the wayside, and it's been hard to get restarted. Also, Several times in the past few days I've heard about the benefit of baby steps and consistency over quantity (this should ring a bell to us 10 minutes a day Sparkies!). In fact, I've been a long believer in this approach, and even advocated it to my husband in a recent conversation. However, I wasn't putting it into practice myself!

So today, I decided that I could meditate for one minute a day before I get out of my car to head into the office. After I did my one minute and gathered my things, I decided to walk mindfully into the building, feeling my feet on the ground as I walked. While walking I realized that I can also walk mindfully when I head back to my care at the end of the day. I had no idea that one tiny minute would set off such a powerful chain reaction!

I'd like to rekindle the longer sitting practice, but for now I'll enjoy the power of the tiny minute!
