April 16, 2019 THE IMPORTANCE OF BAPTISM
When we want others to see a commitment we have made, we normally do it publicly. We may be turning from an addiction and joining a group where we publicly admit what we are addicted to. We may believe in an important cause and we have to get up in front of a group to tell about it and why we believe. If we choose to believe in God, there is a public commitment we make through baptism. Even Jesus was baptized to show His faith in God and His commitment to Him. We need to remember the importance of baptism and that when we are baptized, we bring joy to our Heavenly Father.
Luke 3:21-22 “One day when the crowds were being baptized, Jesus himself was baptized. As he was praying, the heavens opened, and the Holy Spirit, in bodily form, descended on him like a dove. And a voice from heaven said, ‘You are my dearly loved Son, and you bring me great joy.’” (NLT)
1. Write about your baptism.
2. List why baptism is important.
3. Know God wants His people to believe and be baptized.
4. Seek God’s word and His will and choose to be baptized.
Dear Lord, we see the importance of baptism in Your word. We know Jesus chose to be baptized. Jesus knew He was required to carry out all You had planned for Him. Help us to understand the importance of baptism and choose, as Jesus did, to be baptized. Help us to explain this importance of baptism to others as well. We want to publicly commit to You and let others know we believe. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
We are called to carry out all God requires us to do. And part of His requirements is to be baptized.
Matthew 3:15 “But Jesus said, ‘It should be done, for we must carry out all that God requires.’ So John agreed to baptize him.” (NLT)
We are to repent of our sins and be baptized according to the word of God.
Acts 2:38 “Peter replied, ‘Each of you must repent of your sins and turn to God, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.’” (NLT)
Jesus took time to go to where He needed to go to be baptized as God called Him to do.
Matthew 3:13 “Then Jesus went from Galilee to the Jordan River to be baptized by John.” (NLT)
