Smashing it in Melbourne.

Wednesday, June 12, 2019

Have been in Melbourne with daughter since 3rd June. She and I celebrated my attaining 3/4 of a century with a meal at Tsindos, a Greek family type of restaurant on Sunday 9th June. The meal consisted of • Mixed dips • Pita Bread • Saganaki (Kefalogravera) • Grilled Octopus • Grilled Sausage • Seafood Platter • Horiatiki Salad • Baked Potatoes • Meat Platter • Greek Coffee • Mixed Sweets. This was my first ever Greek experience and most enjoyable it was -what a meal!!! I have joined a One Fitness gym seeing as I am here for 15 weeks. A trip to the gym involves a 1Km walk to catch a bus which delivers me to about 100m from the gym in South Morang. My daughter has loaned me her Fitbit Charge 2 which is now linked to SparkPeople. It is a challenge learning how to use it but I have it under control and really smashed it today with a 160 minute workout. A trainer has given me a program to work on with a view to strengthening my lower half to ease the pressure on the arthritic joints which are quite painful, especially my right knee. I was surprised to learn how weak it has become, I hope the program has a positive outcome. Before I left NZ I purchased a Samsung S10 cellphone. I had become frustrated with my J2 that had little capacity to add any apps and often froze. The S10 is keeping me occupied learning some of what it offers, and I am quite impressed with what it can do. Fortunately Trina has a S9 so is able to help. I should have a new set of lawn bowls arrive this week so am looking forward to getting in some practice prior to playing in the NZ champion of champions fours tournament in late July, that my team qualified for earlier. When I get back to Melbourne I fly off to Perth a few days later to spend some time with friends and family. I will be a bit travel weary after all that! My journey of 6 months towards better health and fitness continues well and although weight loss has stalled temporaily I fully expect to be back on track soon. Best wishes to all of you fellow Sparklers.

    Jealous!
So happy you are focusing so much on your health.
My massage therapist has Greek ancestry and loves the foods...can’t say I have ever had any.
I have had painful hips for ten years (bursitis) that has all but disappeared since I have been working with a personal trainer to strengthen my lower body!
