July 21, 2019 UNAMBITIOUS

We see people daily who appear to be unambitious. They seem laid back. They appear lazy and uncaring. However, we can’t truly judge others based on our own perceptions. Many times the meek are perceived as unambitious, laid back or lazy when in fact they are quite the opposite. Their goal in life may not be obvious to us by their actions; however, the meek have a goal to serve God by putting others first. Just because they are not seeking to be the center of attention or sharing their goals with others doesn’t mean they aren’t ambitious to do God’s will. Their ambition is to lead a quiet life and obey God. And that is what He commands us to do as well.

1 Thessalonians 4:11 “and to make it your ambition to lead a quiet life: You should mind your own business and work with your hands, just as we told you,” (NIV)

1. Write what others would say about your ambition.
2. List the ways you can live an ambitious life for God.
3. Be sure your motives are to truly do God’s will.
4. Remember to make it your goal to live a quiet life and stay busy for God.

Dear Lord, we know there are many ambitious people in this world. There are people who are willing to do anything to get ahead in life. We pray You will help us to examine our hearts to be sure our ambitions are to do Your will and not have any selfish ambitions. Help us to get into Your word to know what You want us to do. Help us to live a quiet life and stay busy working only for You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

The meek have ambition…it’s just not selfish ambition. It’s godly ambition.

Philippians 2:3-4 “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.” (NIV)

We need to be sure we are living with ambition to do God’s will and not our own.

James 3:16 “For wherever there is jealousy and selfish ambition, there you will find disorder and evil of every kind.” (NLT)

We are to live godly lives without selfish ambitions seeking God’s way and knowing He will help us.

Proverbs 11:6 “The godliness of good people rescues them; the ambition of treacherous people traps them.” (NLT)
