Feeling my age...frustrating!

Thursday, August 22, 2019

For years I have always had an abundance of energy and for being 67 I still have it however this year I have really felt myself slowing down and feeling the aches and pains of an aging body.

Chasing my 21 month old great granddaughter around and pushing her in her little car is an activity I love to do however today I had to sit and take a rest and let hubby go for a round with her while I recovered. I never expected it to creep on me like this and I am hoping I can counteract the process by amping up my power walks and strength training workouts. Thing is, they are tiring me out now and before they used to invigorate me.

It is frustrating to know that I must slow down when my mind says "keep it up" and the body says "take it easy". I hope I will be able to find a happy medium somewhere between my urges to push beyond my limits and what the body tells me when it says take a break. I won't do anything to injure myself but I feel there has to be more life to me than what I have been able to do lately.

Yes. I hear you. It is frustrating. Husband and I have both slowed down a lot this past couple of years.

Hope that you feel better soon.

I think we all need to find our balance as we age - I know I can't do things as easily as I used to. But I'm determined to keep moving - every little bit helps!!

Susan, I'm sorry to hear you haven't been feeling as energetic as usual. But I really admire you and want to emulate your attitude of doing absolutely as much as you can without hurting yourself. The other day, inspired by your blog about walking, I went out with my two daughters and overdid it, too. I was excited and wanted to get back into fitness, but I did too much too soon, and my hips started hurting really bad pretty far from home. Of course, that never happened when I was young, so I'm feeling a frustration similar to what you're describing in this blog--the strong desire to move, but the need to evaluate the best way to do it. I hope we can both find a happy balance.

However, Susan, for what it's worth--you LOOK so physically fit, and just so pretty. You have taken care of your appearance so well. I know that's not the main reason you exercise, but still--I think we all would like to look our best, and even in small amounts, exercise surely helps.

emoticon I think we all forget that our body ages no matter what we do and reminds us daily. I guess it's just the way of life.
