Second day at the hospital
Tuesday, September 17, 2019
Yesterday, I called Dr Whelan (Urologist) regarding hubby not eating and throwing up since probably last Wednesday. I can't remember what he ate before Saturday. He only had egg drop soup on Saturday after dropping Fin back to NIU campus, we stopped by Yen Ching restaurant. Sunday only had chocolate pudding. Even drinking water, he would throw up! Dr Whelan told me to send him to ER at once! I was trying to ask his permission to call doctor's office since Saturday and he kept telling me "No" So, Sunday night I told him that I am going to call doctor's office on Monday morning if he is still not well.
There's a very long wait to be triage and then there's another long wait (like almost 2 hours) before ER can get ER room for him! He stayed in ER room for 7 hours. They gave him oxygen, IV drip, nausea medications, Labs, monitoring heart, urine sample, pain medication, X-Ray, CAT Scan...
Verdict: very bad kidney infection
More nausea medication injection and antibiotics drip and a couple more antibiotics drip...
Finally, Benadryl drip for stopping spasms from hiccups as he has been having since Saturday. More antibiotics drip. He has a fever now and Tylenol (2) by mouth
Finally in Room A305 at 8:04p
I had to make sure the night time nurse knows what to do with Ostomy bag. She has to wait for another nurse who has experience to find an overnight bag for hubby.
He has to stay in the hospital for a few days due to bad kidney infection.
Dr Whelan came whilst I was there this morning. He said "According to the chart, Dave is doing fine, but looking at him, it looks like Dave was hit by a truck. Doc did not expect that. Doc also said that they will keep an eye on his situation."
Jody (Ostomy nurse) dropped by to change Ostomy, to check if Ostomy wound is doing ok and to train the nurse Mattie how to do it. She also mentioned that we should order this size wafer later.
He is on Clear Liquid Diet. He ordered 2 jellos, 2 cranberry juice and 2 chicken broth.
Another pain medication by injection was just administered by Cathleen around 4:45p. Hubby sent me home early because one I only slept like 4 hours and two he asked for pain medication, hopefully it will put him to sleep.
So I left hospital around 5:00pm and arrived home 20 minutes later. I am relaxing now!
