I have been updating my wardrobe with new pants for winter. My pants from last year are too large, and they slide down around my hips. Have you seen young men wearing huge pants with their underwear sticking up? Well, that’s not a good look at my age!
As always, there are frustrations with shopping for pants. I have lost around 35 pounds, but I am not yet at my goal weight. So it is likely I will have to do this again next winter. I feel very lucky that Costco had pants at a very good price. The frustration with Costco is that you cannot try them on at the store. So I am very lucky that both the nice knit pants in the casual workout pants fit me. I also ordered new bluejeans from an online company, in the same size as the hiking pants that I had just purchased. The jeans did not fit at all, and I had to return them. I understand that women’s sizes vary a lot from one company to another. But I would expect within the same company, with the same manufacturer, the sizing would remain the same.
I know many other people on this journey wait and buy clothing when they have reached their ideal size. I do like to wear clothing that fits and is flattering to my shape. But I don’t replace my entire wardrobe during the journey. I just buy a few key pieces to keep myself dressed; and to keep my pants covering my body.
Here are a few more photos from recent river hikes, with my friends Moon and Richard
Moon is older than I am; she is 72. But she looks much younger!
Last night I attended a very nice birthday dinner for two friends. It was a lot of fun to see everyone.
I'm like you, buy clothes as I go. Don't like baggy or too tight either. Right now I'm between sizes, so that's exactly what happens. Frustrating!!!! I hate clothes shopping, because I can never find anything I like! Once in awhile I do and I'll wear it till it wears out! Even if it starts to get loose . Great pics! Moon doesn't look 72, you're right. Happy shopping...if that's possible.
I do agree new clothes are a must as you slim down and not spend a fortune until you are near the end of your weightloss journey. I find second hand clothes stores such as Goodwill a great place to start. As for the fashion trend of the guys showing their underwear that is not a good thing at any age! Thanks for sharing your pictures ~ another beautiful hike. 31 days ago
During my "rapid weight loss" phase (90 pounds in a year) I made lots of use of my local thrift store (where there IS a change room). Went from size 22 to size 8 and just rotated the pants I'd bought back as donations when I was ready for the next size down . . 33 days ago
I think that the way you are shopping is perfect. You don't want to buy too many items due to even more weight loss, but you want to reward yourself by wearing the size that fits your new body the way it should. I do know what you mean about the difference in sizes even in the same brand...…………..it is frustrating.
One of my roommates in college was from Japan and when we got together a couple of years ago, she looked amazing!!!!! Her skin didn't seem to wrinkle, which, of course made her look at least 15 to 20 years younger. I have to admit to being envious. 34 days ago
I find shopping for clothes online really frustrating. I've bought a couple of bathing suits from Land's End, and I kept them, but seldom wear them. I wear ones that I buy at the pool, which are good because they are more resistant to the chemicals.
I have a couple of local shops where I buy most of my clothes, and Peter often gives me gift cards to buy clothes, as he gets frustrated when I return things that he buys.
One of the nicest things about being retired is not having to dress up as often. I have one new pants suit that I got last summer, and several dresses for when I go out; otherwise I dress very casually.
I've often wondered why it's difficult to guess the age of oriental people. Moon is a perfect example. I would never have guessed that she was 72.
oh my stars I know what you mean about the pants sliding down!! When I was losing in between sizes we have a consignment shop that only takes quality clothing they support the local childrens Ronald McDonald house for familes with very sick children so their families can stay there. So everything is in good shape i often went there for pants & tops i between sizes. I like your friends name Moon. I would never had thought she is 72 ! I do not order any more clothing on line. I had to send too much back in the past.
