Foster care home

Tuesday, October 15, 2019

My daughter is able to be a part of one without moving in. A wonderful cmh case manager realizes the void for socialization for these special needs individuals since transitions centers were closed by the state. A foster care home has opened their home for parties and social gatherings and today was the open house which my daughter fit right in and is excited for the next one. . Now we have our schedule of Monday - disability network classes, Tuesday- this home for fun, Wednesday- her therapy, Thursday- I pay for some one to do something with her (which cmh CLS hours are to cover but hasn’t been approved through the system which is going on 6 years) , Friday- ASPPIRE.social fun. The guardianship agency that was to take over still has not returned calls and has not stepped up to do anything for her. We have not heard from new cmh case manager that took over her case so we are keeping her active and happy.

Happy to hear that she had a good time and fit right in. Government bureaucracy at it best. Keep fighting for her.

God bless you - I have a special needs daughter - she is 30 and has Down Syndrome and she lives with us. Can't imaging transitioning her out and doc has agreed that as long as we can be there for her the better - and as along as she is getting what she needs from the community - and she is. We have 2 wonderful ladies that work with her during the week and one them is also our respite lady for the last 10 years - she is loved by both ladies and when she goes to respite (up to 8 days a month) it is like she is going home as the lady that takes her treats her as a daughter and all her family love her - our daughter had 2 Thanksgiving meals this year - one with me and my husband and then she went to her 'respite family' as they wanted her for it. They constantly tell me not to worry when we can't take care of her or if we have to transition her as someone in that family will jump to have her with them - feeling blessed

Just had to share - and what a beautiful picture of all of you with Michael J Smith

Amazing job. Thank you for doing your part as the system ponders stepping up and helping more.

Amazing what a gap there is in services. You might get one of your contacts, like that senator, to at least push through the CLS hours being approved. Sounds like you have created a good support system to keep her active.
