October 16, 2019 JUDGMENTAL THINKING
It seems, in life, we like to take the easy way out. And who can blame us? We have instant access to most everything which makes life much easier now than it was 100 years ago. However, we have to be careful with easy because it can make us lazy. And it can make us judgmental. Sometimes we are quick to judge others in our thoughts and minds before we even look at our own lives. We are quick to think about the actions or words of others when we may need to review our own words or actions. Let’s stop being quick to judge and instead show love and forgiveness as God calls us to do.
Matthew 7:1-5 “Do not judge others, and you will not be judged. For you will be treated as you treat others. The standard you use in judging is the standard by which you will be judged. And why worry about a speck in your friend’s eye when you have a log in your own? How can you think of saying to your friend, ‘Let me help you get rid of that speck in your eye,’ when you can’t see past the log in your own eye? Hypocrite! First get rid of the log in your own eye; then you will see well enough to deal with the speck in your friend’s eye.” (NLT)
1. Write ways you may be judging others.
2. List the thoughts you have that may be judging.
3. Know God tells you to not judge or condemn others.
4. Remember to leave the judging to God.
Dear Lord, we pray You will help us be more aware of the thoughts we have that are judgmental. We know we are quick to judge others and not even think about our own actions or words. We make excuses for the wrong things we do and brush them off yet we judge someone else for doing the exact same thing. Help us to not judge but to love and forgive as You call us to do. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
We are told in God’s word to not judge – but to forgive.
Luke 6:37 “Do not judge others, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn others, or it will all come back against you. Forgive others, and you will be forgiven.” (NLT)
We need to stop judging others who are doing the same things we are doing.
Romans 2:1 “You may think you can condemn such people, but you are just as bad, and you have no excuse! When you say they are wicked and should be punished, you are condemning yourself, for you who judge others do these very same things.” (NLT)
God tells us He, alone, is the Judge. We are not here on this earth to judge one another.
James 4:12 “God alone, who gave the law, is the Judge. He alone has the power to save or to destroy. So what right do you have to judge your neighbor?” (NLT)
